Garden Day! April 27th, 2013

On Saturday April 27th, MMOC had it's first Garden Day. I must admit that I was a little nervous about organizing an event that was out of my profession. However, when God has his hands in something, it will always work out the way that it is suppose to.

I woke up Saturday morning a little earlier than I had planned, because I needed to meet Mary Jac Brennan (Cooperative Extenstion) in Kernersville at 7:30 am. The orignial time of 8:30 was out the door. Not to mention that I was tired from the night before in which I attended a Women's Conference in Lexington, NC.  Despite fatigue, I was pretty pumped about our Community Garden.
The weather was inconsistent with the forecast. Rainy and Cloudy was predicted, but we actually had some sun mixed in with clouds. My prayers were answered! I was pleasantly suprised with the weather and excited to get the day started.

I met with Mary Jac after my Starbucks run, she supplied us with tomato, cabbage, broccoli, pepper plants and also some seeds. This was very helpful because we only had seeds to work with. After we met, I got into my car headed to the church. I was met by Bishop Fulton who was ready to go. We made a couple of runs and started out tilling the land again. We began picking up more trash which took about an hour. We then began to rake to level the land. After we finished raking the land, we begin to organize our rows by using stakes and thread. While we put seeds in the ground, another group were planting herbs in the garden bed. We had a blast while getting it done! After the lunch break, we planted the flowers.

I was very excited the we accomplished so much. I am looking forward to the harvest!
